The Domestic Market for Rwandan Coffee

Gilbert Gatali, managing director of KZ Noir, discusses the coffee trading company’s work to enhance the domestic market for Rainforest Alliance Certified™ coffee in Rwanda.

By promoting locally grown coffee to Rwandan consumers,  KZ Noir hopes to strengthen regional awareness of Rainforest Alliance certification, support the local economy and increase the domestic availability of high-quality, sustainable java.

More than 160,000 coffee farmers around the globe are safeguarding the health of more than 2.3 million acres (945,000 ha) of land through Rainforest Alliance training and certification. Karengera Coffee Ltd.–an association of more than 2,500 coffee farmers that works with KZ Noir–joined the roster in late 2013 when it became the first coffee cooperative in Rwanda to earn Rainforest Alliance certification.
